How to read a book

June 25, 2007

Charles Petzold gives some great advice at how to read a book. He mentions some of the tips 'n tricks I already learned over the past couple of years:

  • Don't get distracted in any way: no television, PC or Nintendo Wii should be in the same room as you and your book.
  • Depending on the kind of book you are reading, always have a pen, a piece of paper and a dictionary close by. When I get some ideas or want to look something up while I am reading a book,
     I always write it down.
  • Peace and quiet is essential. Although I've tried reading technical books when my wife and three kids were around, the best reading hours for me is when they all went to sleep.

Although I find it difficult to read long articles or books on a computer (maybe because of the distractions), I would like to try out some device like the Sony Reader.
